Abbey Assaroe, founded by Cistercian monks in the 12th Century, is today a popular tourist stop just outside Ballyshannon, County Donegal. In 1989 the Abbey Mill Restoration Trust acquired the mills and surrounding area.
The restored mill is also home to a craft shop and a museum of the Cistercian Monks in Medieval Ireland. Two rotating water wheels have been restored to working order and sit in a beautiful spot overlooking the Erne Estuary.
Visitors can also check out the nearby Catsby Cave and take a stroll along the river across the oldest bridge in Ireland to see St Patricks Well.
Afterwards, why not stop for a nice bite to eat in the coffee shop of restaurant?
